Working Around the House

As I seem to be the only member of the family who has yet to have my own blog, excepting the technologically impaired and those out of the country, I decided that maybe I would give it a go.

You all may know that I have been trying to get some things done around the house. I spent some time painting Aubrey's room while Di and the kids were away. As you can see Aubrey seems to be enjoying her new room. In the background you can even see my handiwork.

Another of my "recent" projects has been building a bank for Jonathan. I actually started this just after he turned 6, so it has been a little while in the making, but I finally finished it this week. I made it out of maple and walnut. The finishing gave me a bit of trouble, but I learned some things in the process--always try a new finish on scrap wood before you use it on the actual piece. Also I don't recommend baking a finshed project in the oven. It does help dry the finish, but it is a little hard on the glue joints. Now Aubrey is wanting me to make her a bank, but there is still a lot to do on the house (it is time to be gitting it ready to sell--hard to believe it has gone so quickly).
